Polishing and Cleaning Silver and Pewter Utensils

cleaning-metal

Diatomaceous earth powder is extremely fine, porous, and hard, which makes it a fantastic abrasive for cleaning and polishing metals, including silver and pewter.

Follow these steps to polish silver or pewter with diatomaceous earth:

Step 1:

Dip a cloth or cotton ball into some DE.

Step 2:

Rub each utensil with the cloth or cotton ball in a circular motion, applying moderate pressure.

Step 3:

Repeat until all surfaces are evenly polished.

Step 4:

Remove any residual diatomaceous earth by gently brushing your silver or pewter with a clean, soft cloth.

Note: Because DE is very abrasive, this method should only be used occasionally to restore your pewter or silver's shine.
